Philip Wills

Philip was appointed as Diocesan Registrar and Principal Legal Adviser to the Bishop of Durham in 2018. He combines his expertise in ecclesiastical law for the Diocese of Durham with work in the dispute resolution/civil litigation department . Philip gained an LLM with distinction in 2010 from Northumbria University after conducting research into the law on chancel repair liability. Aside from his specialist area of ecclesiastical law he has particular interest in property law disputes.
Philip is also Clerk to the Trustees of the Durham City Freemen acting as legal adviser to the trade guilds of the city. A keen sportsman and a qualified rugby referee, Philip enjoys cricket, rugby and mountaineering.
