Louise Gibbs begins final training as a solicitor

We are delighted to share the news that Louise Gibbs has started a two-year training contract to become a fully qualified solicitor with our family law team in Cardiff.

During her training contract Louise will build on the practical work experience and skills she has gained so far working alongside Sandra Horwood, Partner and Head of the Matrimonial and Family Department. Louise will complete the Professional Skills Course (PSC) as part of her training. The PSC is a modular course regulated by the Solicitor’s Regulatory Authority (SRA) which is the final stage of mandatory training to become a solicitor. To qualify as a solicitor Louise must pass examinations and assessments over a series of core and elective PSC modules.

Sandra Horwood says, “We all congratulate Louise on taking the final step in her training. Louise has demonstrated a caring and compassionate manner and a dedication to achieving the best possible outcomes for our clients. I look forward to seeing her build on her strengths and progress her career with us.”

Louise’s background

Louise joined our family law team as a paralegal earlier this year supporting clients with divorce, children and financial matters across both private and legal aid work.

Prior to becoming a paralegal Louise worked for the Citizens Advice Bureau as both a generalist advisor and as part of the EU Citizens Rights project in South Wales, where she gained experience in advising clients on a variety of matters including debt, employment, family and relationships, immigration and welfare benefits.

Before joining the Citizens Advice Bureau Louise undertook work experience at Capital Law. She assisted the Employment and Immigration team by performing a variety of tasks such as proofreading and amending legal documents. Additionally, she compiled research on GDPR, EU-US Privacy Shield and the impact of Brexit on EU nationals and their families residing in the UK.

After completing her secondary education at Bryn Hafren Comprehensive School and Barry Sixth Form, Louise studied Law at Swansea University. She gained a First-class honours degree and then completed the Legal Practice Course (LPC) combined with a Masters in Advanced Legal Drafting LLM at Swansea University in 2020, gaining a Merit overall.

Throughout her education, Louise gained experience in the retail sector working part-time as a customer assistant at Tesco and a sales assistant at Peacocks.

Her personal interests

Before Covid Louise participated in voluntary work in the local community, including helping to organize and run coffee mornings and other events at Crossways Methodist Church. She hopes to get back to what she enjoys very soon!

Louise also likes socializing with friends, going to the gym, walking her dog and reading. She loves listening to music and she is a musical theatre enthusiast.

Louise says…

“I am thrilled to start my final training with J A Hughes and to build on the skills and knowledge I have acquired so far. I have learnt that every situation and every client is different, and I make sure I offer a tailored service. I am looking forward to continuing to help families by providing high quality legal advice and much-needed practical support.”
