Penny Spencer
Having begun her Private Client journey around 14 years ago Penny trained with a trainee Solicitor. At the time they navigated the world of Wills, LPAs, estates and Court of Protection together.
One of her favourite things about the role she has is initially meeting the client, learning their stories, building up trust and eventually getting them to an agreed conclusion, where they feel they have had their feelings and concerns heard fully and that they have been guided along the journey. Hopefully not left feeling they are just part of a process.
During the COVID-19 lockdown Penny decided to leave her job and tried a new career path. This time in the realm of supported living, where she learned just how important the role, she previously held in a Private Client Department is, as it gives some protection to the most vulnerable in our society.
Having made the decision to rejoin the legal field, Penny joined a local competitor in the Conveyancing Department as a way back into law and although she was back helping individuals during another very emotional and stressful time in their lives, she just didn’t have the same passion for it as when dealing with clients in Private Client. So, after a chance encounter and a brief discussion with Alanna White who she had previously worked with, Penny accepted the offer and decided to rejoin Alanna and her new team at Large & Gibson in a role that she loves and has real passion for.
Penny believes that to work in this area of law, you must be prepared if a client wishes, just to take the time and have a real conversation. This helps to build the confidence that they have in the team that they are instructing to represent their best interests. Also, that having an empathetic and caring nature really helps in this area of law.
