Employment Tribunal Statistics
Employment Tribunal quarterly statistics have now been published by the Ministry of Justice for October to December 2013.
The number of claims received was only 9,801 which is a 79% decrease from the same quarter in 2012. This is the first full quarter since the introduction of Employment Tribunal Fees on 29 July 2013 and appears to reflect the impact of the introduction of fees.
Interestingly, UNISON’s recent judicial review challenge to the introduction of fees failed in part because of the lack of evidence on the impact of fees on access to justice. These statistics therefore give support to UNISON’s argument that the fees regime should be amended.
