Since the introduction of fees of up to £1,200.00 to bring a claim in the Employment Tribunal the number of cases brought in the Tribunal reduced by 79%.
Whereas the introduction of fees was intended to reduce the amount of frivolous and vexatious claims brought in the tribunal, in which it was very effective, it also had the effect of deterring valid claims from being pursued.
The government will now reimburse £32million fees already paid and will cease taking fees 'immediately'.
