Employers are able to change their employees' contracts (known as a variation of contract) however employers should only do this for one of 3 reasons. If the change is agreed by the employee, if there is a variation clause in the contract which allows this, or there is a change of law that makes the change necessary. If none of these reasons apply the employee may be entitled to take legal action against their employer.
