When adopting a child, do I have to go to court?

Yes you will, as the final adoption hearing is held by a judge at court usually in front of the child(ren). It is part of the process - decisions the judge may need to consider include any refusal by the birth parents to consent to the adoption as well as the arrangements for the adoption itself.
