Can I obtain a grant, myself, without using solicitors?

Yes you can. If you are named in the will as the Executor you can obtain the grant without using solicitors. Also, if there is no will and intestacy rules appoint you to administer the estate you too can obtain a grant without the need for solicitors.

This process will involve you swearing an oath to promise the court that you will properly administer the estate in accordance with the law - you will also need to attend the probate registry in person. If the estate is worth over £5,000 a small fee is due to the probate registry.
