What are the steps in the probate process?
The probate process is the administration of a deceased person’s estate carried out by the administrator or executor of the estate. The first step is to apply for grant of probate, which is a document giving the administrator the authority to deal with the deceased person’s property. The executor may then need to pay any unpaid taxes or debts left by the deceased person, sell property or shares and report the value of the estate and tax liability to HM Revenue and Customs.
